Boulder Area Parks & Attractions
Chautauqua: You can hardly be a true Boulderite without regular visits to Chautauqua Park, which is one of the three remaining Chautauquas in America. The Auditorium and 60 original cottages border open space and the Flatirons. These popular hiking trails will take you to the foot of the Flatirons or through fields of wild flowers. The Royal Arch trail will even lead you to a 30 foot arch that overlooks Boulder. On summery afternoons, the central lawn is populated with people reading, chatting, picnicking with their families and playing Frisbee with their dogs.
North Boulder: Characterized by the Ideal Marketplace and its accompanying uniquely Boulder shops, North Boulder CO homes are in a truly family-oriented area that is demarcated from the student feel of University Hill.
Viele Lake: This man-made dam has become one of Boulder's favorite secrets. A one-mile trail circles the lake and is popular with walkers and runners.
East Boulder Rec Center: This hub for Boulder fitness-seekers offers far more than the ordinary health club. The Rec Center routinely offers free climbing classes on its extensive indoor climbing walls. Other facilities include 8-lane pool, leisure pool, dance studio, aerobics classes, outdoor volleyball, indoor racquetball and tennis courts and Jacuzzi and steam rooms. Whether your kids have their birthday parties here or you lift weights on your free time, East Boulder Rec offers services that will seamlessly fit into your lifestyle.
Mount Sanitas: These Boulder trails offer spectacular views of Indian Peaks, the Flatirons and Boulder itself. Various loops offer choices for the ambitious hikers and runners as well as families who are just there for a quick jaunt. This is where sandstone was originally quarried to build the University of Colorado campus. Today, impressive sandstone arches and ponderosas still line the trail.
Boulder Reservoir: Famous for the Boulder Kinetics Race every May, the Reservoir's atypical sandy beaches are sure to attract Boulderites on balmy summer days. A local Boulder radio station, KBCO puts on the Kinetics Race, which features live bands, food and a contest to see which water-borne vehicles (usually resembling parade floats) will sink and which will cross the Reservoir to victory. The reservoir isn't just attractive in the summer (although it does offer swim beaches and boat rentals in the summer months)—fishing and picnic areas stay open year round.
Rocky Mountain National Park: Accessible through Estes Park (less than 40 miles from Boulder), this park is an ideal summer camping destination for those who own Boulder CO homes. Over 350 miles of trails ensure that even the most avid hikers won't get bored. Hundreds of campsites and 60 peaks that top 12,000 feet provide endless opportunities to spot the diverse wildlife and the Colorado mountain views.
Pearl Street Mall: Pearl Street Mall is located near many Boulder CO homes, and is the Rodeo Drive of Boulder, without the convertibles. Upscale shops, art galleries and famous Boulder restaurants line this pedestrian-only street. People stroll along licking ice cream cones or stopping to watch talented street performers. The "Zip Code Man" has every zip code in America memorized. Another performer can fit himself into a small, glass box. The entertainment is endless. Live music fills the air on summer evenings, and it isn't unusual to see people dancing in the street or children cooling off in the water fountains. Pearl and the surrounding streets are also the major hub of Boulder's nightlife with various pubs, bars and dance clubs.
Pleasant View Soccer Fields: One of the premier soccer and rugby facilities in the country, Pleasant view has been the host to numerous national tournaments including the Junior National Championships for Rugby. It is also a wonderful place to watch CU's very talented women's soccer team take on the competition in the Big 12.
