Bike To Work DayBoulder, Colorado and some 1,600 cyclists celebrated its 5th Annual Winter Bike to Work Day, today January 23rd 2013.  Held during the rain, snow or sun shine; riders lucked out today with a great forecast and much participation.  This event is not only meant to encourage more people to ride their bikes to work, but it is meant to honor those that do it every day. We’re not going to lie; biking to work can be hard work, but it is so rewarding at the same time.  In addition to reducing your own personal carbon footprint you are also stimulating your body, mind and spirit at the same time.

Several locations participated in this family event and treated their riders to a free breakfast.  Participating locations included Alfalfas, Community Cycles, CU Bike Program, Dushanbe Teahouse, Ideal Market, Moe's Bagels, Page Two, Pedal to Properties, and Rally Sport Health and Fitness.

Fun for everyone, cyclists could be seen traversing the City of Boulder in full force this morning and will be out again for the evening commute home.  Although seeing cyclists riding with rush hour traffic is not an unusual site for Boulder, today helps to remind us just how lucky we are to live such a progressive community where alternative means of transportation are so highly applauded.  Leading the country in green innovations and movements is a big part of what Boulder is all about.  Changes both complicated and colossal, as well as small and personal, can make a big impact on our environment. By hosting events like Winter Bike to Work Day, shows more and more people that being green is not just a trend, but a way of life for Boulder residents.  If you missed this winter’s Bike to Work Day, be sure to catch the next one in June, or just climb on your bike for tomorrow’s commute!
